INSPIRING WORD
Messages that enrich your life and brings you closer to God.
Why we do, What we do
Why we Lift our Hands
1 Timothy 2:8 “In every place of worship, I want men to pray with Holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy”. (New Living Translation)
This means:
- Consecration
- Surrender to God
- Readiness to receive
The best example we have is when a child comes running to her mother with hands lifted to show her utter dependence and admiration of her mother.
Clapping our Hands
Psalm 47:1 “Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise!” (New Living Translation)
This means:
- Enjoyment
- Triumph
- Appreciation
- Joy in God’s presence
- Agreement
- Support
Dancing in Church
Psalm 149:3 “Praise His Name with dancing, accompanied by tambourine and harp”. (New Living Translation)
This means:
- Victory
- Abundant Joy
Also, see Psalm 30:11 and Psalm 150:4
Praise & Worship
Psalm 21:13 “Be exalted, O Lord, in Your own strength! We will sing and praise Your power.” (New King James Version)
This means:
- Bringing honour to God
- A willingness to serve
- Submission to God
- Sign of respect
- Sign of commitment
- Sign of love
- Also, see Psalms 86:9
Shout for Joy
Psalm 98:4 “Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth, break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises”. (New Living Translation)
This means:
- Expression of love and excitement
- Giving Honour
Pray Fervently
Psalm 17:6 “I am praying to You because I know You will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray.” (New Living Translation)
Keep on praying. God answers prayer. See also Matthew 6:9-13; John 17 and Matthew 7:7
Give to God
2 Corinthians 9:7b “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” (New Living Translation)
We need to give to God first (this is obedience) but the Bible talks of a ministry of giving in 2 Corinthians 9:6.
We should know that what we sow is what we reap. We need to create a habit of giving. See also Luke 6:38
Study the Word
God want us to study His Word.
Joshua 1:8 “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” (New Living Translation) See Also 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (King James Version)
Laying on of Hands
We have different examples of laying on of hands. This may be either for healing or the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 28:8b “Paul went in and prayed for him, and laying his hands on him, he healed him.” (New Living Translation)
Acts 19:6 “Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied.” (New Living Translation)
Love One Another
1 John 4:7 “Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.” (New Living Translation) See also 1Corinthians 13
Falling under the Power of the Holy Spirit
1 Kings 8:10-11 “And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.”(New King James Version) See also John 18:5-6 and Acts 26:13-14
Speaking in Tongues
We need to make a clear distinction between tongues as a sign of being baptized in the Holy Spirit
1 Corinthians 14:2 “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.” (New International Version) and
Tongues as a gift (This is where you speak in a tongue that you have never learned – e.g. If I do not know how to speak Japanese and God gives me a message of salvation in Japanese, and there is a Japanese person in the audience.)
